National Conferences are held every three years and at each Conference elections for the positions of National Commissioner and Deputy National Commissioner are held. (These two positions may only be held for six consecutive years.)
The position of National Chaplain and National Treasurer are appointments made by the National Council, and the National Administrator is a staff member.
Voting Delegates to Conference are brought together from each State to discuss the issues facing Brigade. Each State Council decides who the delegates will be to represent their State. The number of delegates from each State is determined by the membership of that State in the Annual Statistics of the previous year.
Decisions made at these Conferences are policy decisions affecting the organisation Australia wide.
The Conference meeting also reviews the previous three years and plans for the future.
Between National Conferences the power of the Conference is vested in the National Council, which meets annually.
Members of National Council are as follows:
Matters such as National Constitution, Brigade Structure, Girls' Programme, Leader's Training, Uniform, the granting of special Awards and National Life Membership are National decisions and whilst open for discussion at State and Divisional level must be brought to a National level for Girls' Brigade decision.
