Pioneer Leadership Training Braids

PIONEER LEADERSHIP TRAINING
1. PRELIMINARY LEADERSHIP
Aim:
To introduce Pioneers to the concept of basic leadership and develop confidence in building relationship.
Pre-Requisites:
1. Completed one school term in Pioneers
2. Completed the Pre-Training Package which covers:
a) Building Relationships
 b) Developing relationships with Cadet/Juniors including survey
c) Drill
3. Pioneer Brigade Knowledge.
This Course Covers:
1. Christian Leadership
2. Building and developing relationships
3. Building and developing self confidence
4. Group dynamics
5. Introduction to planning an activity
6. Knowledge of The Girls' Brigade organisation
7. Introduction to Risk Management and Duty of Care
8. Practical assessment of skills learnt
Practical Work A
(to be done in Company before Training)
1.Take Company "Fall In" at least twice.
2. Complete a Cadet/Junior Survey and Evaluation Sheet with at least 3 girls.
3. Complete Pioneer Brigade Knowledge.
4. Pass Uniform Check.
Practical Work B
(to be done during Training)
1. Participate in group and individual talks.
2. Conduct Company "Fall In".
3. Pass Brigade Knowledge Quiz.
4.Pass Uniform Check.
Practical Work C
(to be done in Company after Training)
Lead a small group (4-5 girls) of Cadets or Juniors in an activity eg mural, frieze, collage, etc, related to an achievement which they are working on.
Training Outcomes
At the end of the training sessions the Pioneer will be able to:
Lead a group in Drill.
Confidently express herself in a small group situation.
Demonstrate a knowledge of The Girls' Brigade organisation.
Lead a craft activity with a small group considering the age and ability of the girls.
 
2. RECREATIONAL COURSE
AIM
To help the Pioneer develop skills required for Leadership in recreational activities within the Company.
PRE-REQUISITES
1. Complete Preliminary Leadership Training
2. Show an interest in accepting Leadership responsibility
This Course Covers
1. Christian Leadership
2. Responsibilities of Leadership
3. Understanding the girls and their different abilities
4. Characteristics of what makes a good group
5. Planning and leading a games session
6. Teaching a new game
7. leading a group in singing
8. Teaching a new song
9. Preparing and leading a craft activity
10. Safety precautions for group recreational activities
11. Development of a resource file of activities
12. Introduction to Risk Management and Duty of Care
13. Practical assessment of skills learnt
Training Outcome
At the end of the training sessions the Pioneer will be able to:
Plan, prepare and teach a new game to a group of 12-15 girls, selecting appropriate games for their age, ability and considering relevant safety issues.
Plan, prepare and teach a new song to a group of 15-20 girls, selecting appropriate songs for their age, ability and considering relevant safety issues.
Plan, prepare and teach a craft to a group of 5-8 girls, selecting a appropriate craft for their age, ability and considering relevant safety issues.
Set up or further develop a resource file including songs, games and crafts.
 
3. GIRLS' BRIGADE COURSE
AIM:
To help the Pioneer develop skills required for Leadership in the Company programme.
PRE-REQUISITES
1. Completed the Preliminary Pioneer Leadership Training Course
2. Show an interest in accepting Leadership responsibility
This Course Covers
1. Christian Leadership
2. Leading and teaching Drill
3. Techniques for establishing group discipline
4. Delivering clear instructions
5. Teaching methods
6. Programme planning
7. Development of a resource file of activities
8. Introduction to Risk Management and Duty of Care
9. Practical assessment of skills learnt
Training Outcomes
At the end of the training sessions the Pioneer will be able to:
Plan a six week programme for Cadets or Juniors selecting appropriate activities for the topic and taking into consideration the age and ability of the girls and all relevant safety issues.
Lead a group of girls for a session from the programme planned.
Teach a group of 8-12 girls the basics of drill.
Set up or further develop a Resource file including songs, games and activities.
 
4. SPIRITUAL COURSE
AIM:
To prepare the Pioneer for the Spiritual tasks she will encounter both in Brigade and other Church activities as she serves the Lord Jesus Christ.
PRE-REQUISITES
1. Completed Preliminary Pioneer Leadership Training course
2. Show an interest in accepting Leadership responsibility
3. It is recommended that the Pioneer regularly attends Sunday School, Bible Study, Church or other Christian Education programme.
This Course Covers
1. Christian Leadership
2. Understanding the girls' spiritual development
3. Planning a devotional programme
4. Teaching a memory verse
5. Story telling
6. Development of a resource file of songs, games and activities
7.Introduction to Risk Management and Duty of Care
8. Practical assessment of skills learnt
Training Outcomes
At the end of the training sessions the Pioneer will be able to:
Plan an outline for a Devotional session for a group of Cadets or Juniors.  The session will include a theme, Bible Reading, Prayer, Songs, Memory Verse and a story using visual aids.  The session will be appropriate for the girls age, ability and will encourage participation by all girls with relevant safety issues being taken into consideration.
Plan, prepare and present a devotional story using visual aids appropriate for the age of the group.
Plan and prepare a visual aid to teach a memory verse.
Set up or further develop a resource file including songs, games and craft
 
 
5. INDOOR CAMPING COURSE
AIM:
To help the Pioneer develop skills required for planning and leading an Indoor Camp.
PRE-REQUISITES
1. Completed one advanced Pioneer Leadership Training Course
2. Show an interest in accepting Leadership responsibility
3. Be at least 16 years of age.
This Course Covers
1. Christian Leadership
2. The benefits created by Indoor Camping
3. Aims of Christian Camping
4. All aspects of efficient camp planning and preparation
5. Duties and responsibilities of Camp Leaders
6 Development of a resource file of activities
7. Introduction to Risk Management and Duty of Care
8. Practical assessment of skills learnt
Training Outcome
At the end of the training sessions the Pioneer will be able to:
Assist in the organisation and running of a Company or Divisional Camp - under the supervision of the Captain or Divisional Commissioner.
Plan and organise an overnight sleepover in a Church Hall or private home - under the supervision of the Captain or Divisional Commissioner.
Set up or further develop a Resource file including songs, games and activities.
 
6. ADMINISTRATIVE COURSE
AIM:
To help the Pioneer to take her place in any group of people, to help her to be confident to voice an opinion and support it.
To help the Pioneer develop an understanding of the responsibilities and duties of executive positions in a group or organisation within or outside the Church.
PRE-REQUISITES
1. Completed at least one advanced Pioneer Leadership Training Course
2. Show an interest in accepting Leadership responsibility
3. Must be at least 16 years of age

2. Citizenship
3. Functions of a committee
4. Leading a discussion
5. Formal meeting procedure
6. The tasks of Executive positions
7. Planning a special event
8. Development of a resource file of activities
9. Introduction to Risk Management and Duty of Care
10. Practical assessment of skills learnt
Training Outcomes
At the end of the training sessions the Pioneer will be able to:
Set out an agenda for a Committee Meeting and write the minutes relating to it.
Plan, prepare and conduct a special event - under the supervision of a Captain or Divisional Commissioner.
Demonstrate an understanding of the tasks of Executive positions and rules of debate.
Further develop a Resource file including songs, games and activities suitable for a special event.
